Surgical oncologist joins Las Vegas medical community bringing advanced expertise in thyroid cancer and other complex surgeries
September is Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month, an opportunity to increase awareness of thyroid cancer and the importance of specialized care for patients diagnosed with the disease. This month, Sunrise Health System is expanding access to specialized cancer surgery in the Las Vegas community with the addition of Gabriela Aitken, MD, a board-certified general surgeon with fellowship training in complex general surgical oncology and minimally invasive techniques.

Dr. Aitken specializes in the treatment of both benign and malignant conditions, with expertise in thyroid and parathyroid disorders, adrenal tumors, gastrointestinal cancers, hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancers, skin and soft tissue cancers, and other complex abdominal tumors.

The surgical oncology conditions that Dr. Aitken manages require advanced operative planning and coordination among multiple medical subspecialties. She utilizes evidence-based approaches and minimally invasive techniques with an emphasis on communication, safety and quality of life to achieve optimal outcomes for her patients.
Her arrival further strengthens MountainView Hospital and Sunrise Health System’s network of cancer care and expands access to specialized surgical expertise for patients across Southern Nevada. As part of MountainView’s commitment to increasing access to specialty care, Dr. Aitken joins a team of two established surgeons at the practice, Dr. Matthew Selleck and Dr. Garrett Friedman, to provide high-quality, individualized care for people facing a cancer diagnosis as well as those with complex surgical needs.
